November 2007  Acey
Acey (a.k.a. Pipsqueak, Pest-o or The Ace-Meister) is our daughter Audrey’s new kitten who found her way to us last August via a local newspaper ad, and now must certainly be in the running for the title of world’s most photographed feline. I dedicate this entry to every parent who has ever firmly said “no, no, no no no” to a pleading child’s request for a new pet, only to nose-dive into temporary insanity where you find yourself saying, “OK, we can go look, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to take one home,” which we all know eventually leads to, “Oh gee, what’s one more vet bill anyway?”

Audrey says she came up with the name “Acey” before she ever set eyes on her new kitten. The “ace” is the best card in the deck and Audrey just knew she would pick the best kitten in the litter (er, make that the best kitten in the world!) Acey has a middle name and it’s Victoria. This is only so we can use her full name—Acey Victoria Anderson!—whenever she misbehaves. Acey assumed that particular middle name because of a white mark on her belly in the shape of a “V.” Besides that, and a few subtle stripes, she’s the most monochromatic kitten I’ve ever seen.

Once adopted, Acey immediately nestled into our routines, such as visiting Lee’s Mom on Saturday mornings. And, just like the other hardworking pets who call this place home, Acey insisted on helping out in our pet photography business. And what a great little staff addition she is! She sorts business cards, approves my website design, art directs our photo shoots, and—who knew?!?—she’s a great little mouser to boot! So, has Acey complicated our lives? Yes, indeed! But in a good way that convinces us we’ve done the right thing for our daughter.

If you haven’t gotten enough of Acey Victoria, you can see another great portrait of her in Gallery 6.
