October 2007  Dirt
Meet Dirt—a 3-year old who writes about the dog world from his own unique Pug perspective through his monthly column in Northern Virginia Magazine. Well, it doesn’t hurt that his Mom, Jennifer Crawford, writes the “Pampered Pets” column that’s nearby. The jury’s out on who’s the better writer, but I’ve heard from several dog lovers that they grab the magazine off the newstand (or out of their mailbox) and read Dirt’s column first. And surely we do here at Anderson Photography.

I normally leave it to our poodle, Dakota, to come up with our best marketing schemes. So it’s no surprise that it was his idea to respond to one of Dirt’s columns and offer him a photo shoot so we could get to know Dirt up close and personal. Dirt accepted with pleasure and we even got to spend an evening last summer with Jennifer, who had been thinking about doing a column on pet photography. Happily for us, this led to our being featured in her November column. Thanks, Jennifer!

Dirt also wrote about the photo shoot in his column. He reported that once he saw his portraits, he was willing to shed his “negative self-image as an ugly street dog.” You see, when Dirt was rescued in 2003, he was thin, stinky, almost bald and suffering from 12 fractures. The person who found him, the people who helped him recuperate, the organizers behind Southeast Pug Rescue and Dirt’s current owners who adopted him will certainly reap great karma. Read more about their collective rescue effort to save Dirt here.

Dirt lives in Fairfax, Virginia with his owners, Jennifer and Thor, and sister Pickles. Their favorite family outing is the water park. After their annual celebration of Cinco De Mayo, they always sleep in late.

Dirt keeps our friend Daisy company in Gallery 1.
