January 2008  Archie
Archie is a 21- month-old Westie who lives in Arlington, Virginia and works with his Mom in the office of a California Congressman. An honors graduate of the prestigious Olde Towne School for Dogs, Archie came to Capitol Hill last Spring to try his hand at this thing called politics and to get some experience in the “real world.”

Archie’s work day is a busy one. After greeting his fellow staff members, he goes right to the window sill, where he lays on a blanket and enjoys a view of the U.S. Capitol and the people walking below. This is great spot for naps, but Archie’s naps are often interrupted by visiting constituents from California who stop in for a Capitol Tour and have to say hello. Sometimes Archie sits in on meetings too. Just having a dog in the room seems to lighten everyone’s mood.

Archie was a bit nervous about the nasty “partisan politics” he had read about. However, he will happily tell you he has experienced nothing of the sort. He has friends on both sides of the aisle—both human and canine. Most everyone smiles at Archie as he walks through the halls. Some even pet him or take his picture, and he always obliges those who wish to stop and socialize. You never know when someone might have a spare treat to hand out, or when you might need to count on their vote down the line!

Though Archie continues to dodge speculation about his political future, he is routinely spotted with this potential running mate. No doubt their slogan would be “Endless squeaker tennis balls and bully sticks for everyone!” Oh, and “More Naps!

Archie, who took a real liking to Lee during his photo session, also appears on our Westies page in Gallery 2.
