August 2006   Dakota
Dakota has the distinction of being our first Dog of the Month, because it was the enthusiasm that our friends generated over Lee’s early photos of Dakota that launched our pet photography business in mid-2006.

Dakota is a brown Standard Poodle, who at 1 year, 3 months, is still a puppy despite his large (for a poodle) 73-pound frame. His color is unusual in that he’s currently half-way between his mother’s dark brown and his father’s cafe-au-lait coats. Dakota’s other most striking feature is his calm temperament. He came to us from Macbeth Kennels, a breeder near Appomattox, Virginia. Dakota’s sister, father and grandfather live at Geer’s Dogwood Kennels in Spotsylvania, Virginia—another great place to buy a Poodle.

Dakota loves to be taken along on family vacations, and has traveled with us through Washington DC and 9 different states from New York to Tennessee and places in between. His favorite overnight stay was at the Hyatt Resort in Cambridge, Maryland on the Choptank River, and his favorite beach is the National Seashore on the Maryland portion of Assateague Island. Dakota’s favorite local hangouts are Ft. Hunt Park and the Doggie Happy Hour in Old Town Alexandria. His favorite park of all time is Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY where dogs can be off-leash from 9pm to 9am.

Dakota is featured on our home page in the top left corner (home!) You can also find him by scrolling over his name on the Poodle home page in Gallery 1 where Dakota hangs out with his other Poodle friends.
